Middle School Summer Preparation

We are so excited that you are joining us for the 2022-23 Middle School program. To make your transition into the 2022-2023 school year smooth, we have put all of the summer and start of school information in one space.

First Day of Middle School

Advisory & Schedules

Your child will be a part of our signature advisory program starting on their first day of school.

Just before school begins, you will receive an email with the name of your child's advisor. On the first day of school they will spend the entire morning with their advisory group. They will receive their schedule at this time, set up their binder, and learn the ins and outs of Middle School. This is a great time to get to know other students, and break the ice with team building games. In the afternoon, students go through their entire schedule, meeting each teacher and learning class expectations.

Our Advisory Program is designed to inspire students as they identity passions and discover themselves. Our teachers are the best at what they do- true educators who challenge, guide, and support our students on their academic journey.

An advisory becomes like a family on campus. The role of the advisor is to be an advocate, coach, mentor and communication point person for his/her advisees. As a parent, your child's advisory is your point person. Their advisor will know your child both as an individual learner and person, and understand how they work as part of a team. This relationship will ensure that your child has a strong middle school experience finding out more about themself, and how they contribute to a community.

Arrival & Dismissal

Arrival
7:30 to 7:55 - Carline - Students may arrive starting at 7:30 a.m. in Carline by the Lower School Gym.

8 a.m. - Advisory Begins
Students arriving to advisory after 8 a.m. are LATE.

Tardy & Late
Students are marked tardy if they arrive after 8:00 a.m
Between 8:00-8:15 a.m. the advisor will mark the student as “Late.”
After 8:15 a.m. students will need to report to the Front Office to check in as tardy.

Dismissal - 3:20 p.m. in Carline.

Study Hall

Study Hall is designed for parents who may need until 5:30 p.m. to pick their child up from school and is available for students in grade 6-8.

Choose Electives: Foreign Language and Music

Incoming 6th graders will take all three music selections as a rotation in order to expose them to different courses. They will take a partial year of both French and Spanish.

Incoming 7th and 8th grade students are able to choose their foreign language (Spanish or French) and music electives (Band, Chorus, or Performing Arts) prior to the start of the school year.

Summer reading is a requirement for all MS students. Math packets were sent home with students prior to the end of school. If you did not receive a math packet or were not previously enrolled, please contact Ally Topliff at atopliff@seacrest.org

Uniforms

Updated 22-23 Dress Code Guidelines

MIDDLE SCHOOL: GRADES 6-8
Students’ hair shall be clean, of a natural human color, and cut/styled in a manner that is not distracting. Hair should be kept neat so that it does not fall in one’s face. Hats may only be worn outside.

Top:
   •   Solid color Seacrest logo polo shirt from Lands’ End. Shirts may only have the top two buttons undone, all other buttons must be fastened.
   •   Solid color Seacrest logo sweatshirt or jacket.
   •   Hoodies are not permitted.
   •   Fridays: Seacrest Spirit Shirt.

Bottom:
   •   Khaki or navy pants, capris or shorts that rest just above the knee in the style of Lands' End.
   •   All pants/shorts must have a zipper fly and a button or snap closure at the waist.
   •   All pants/shorts must be neat, clean, and in good repair. No rips, frays, extra pockets, zippers, unheeded edges, etc.
   •   No skirts, skorts or dresses.
   •   Leggings, jeggings, yoga pants and sweatpants are not permitted.
   •   Fridays: Students may wear solid denim jeans in good repair.

Shoes:
   •   Sneakers, top-siders, canvas slip-ons, and flats are acceptable for everyday use.
   •   Not permitted: boots, CROCS, flip flops, open-toed shoes,, cleats, platform shoes,  or shoes with wheels.

Formal Wear:
   •   White long or short-sleeve Seacrest Logo button-down shirt, tucked into pants. Shirts may only have the top two buttons undone, all other buttons must be fastened.
   •   Light tan-color khaki long pants in the style of Lands' End (No black, blue, gray or other color)
   •   Black or brown belt.
   •   Black or brown dress shoes that are closed-toe with a back, no athletic shoes.

Field Trip Wear:
   •   White Seacrest Logo Polo Shirt (Select field trips may permit PE uniforms to be worn in place of Field Trip Wear).
   •   Khaki or navy pants, capris or shorts that rest just above the knee in the style of Lands' End.
Swimsuits:
   •   On swimming and beach field trips girls may wear a one-piece bathing suit or a two-piece bathing suit with a rash guard/swim shirt over their swimsuit.
   •   Boys may wear swim trunks with a rash guard/swim shirt.

Free Dress Days:
   •   Clothes and shoes must be appropriate for a school setting, in good repair with no tears or rips.
   •   Tank tops, skirts/skorts, sweatpants, jeggings and leggings are not permitted.
   •   Solid denim jeans with no tears and rips are permitted.
   •   Seacrest Spirit wear may be worn if the shirts are crew neck or polo style and the shorts are knee-length.
   •   Clothing with political themes or inappropriate designs, images, and language will not be permitted.
   •   Clothing and accessories on themed, spirit or festive dress days must be appropriate to the occasion and the school setting. The assessment of school administration is final.

P. E. Uniform:
   •   Green Seacrest-logo athletics shorts only.
   •   Charcoal Seacrest athletics P.E. shirt only.
   •   Athletic shoes only.
   •   No sports jerseys, sweatpants, leggings, or volleyball shorts.

The school reserves the right to prohibit any item of dress or accessory that is deemed inappropriate by administration.

Shop Lands' End

The intent of our school uniform policy is to contribute to an environment that encourages learning without distractions, provides a structure that respects individualism, and promotes a sense of community and togetherness. Purchase of your logo polo, sweatshirts/sweaters, and dress shirts must be done through Lands' End, but you may purchase other uniform items (such as bottoms) from any store. Backpacks and lunchboxes may be purchased from any store.

Please note, masks are not required for students, but if Students choose to wear a mask, they may wear any pattern of reusable cloth masks or disposable masks as long as they are not scary or suggestive in nature.

All students will need a backpack to carry items to and from school and a lunchbox with an icepack for lunch and snack. These items may be purchased from any store.

Athletics

The Seacrest Athletic program offers 10 different sports and has a total of 32 teams at the Varsity/JV and Middle School level. We encourage students to play multiple sports and over eighty percent of our Upper School and Middle Students participate in at least one school-sponsored team. Seacrest is a member of the Florida High School Athletic Association, Sunshine State Conference and Private 8 Conference.

Students must have an updated physical and Florida forms in order to begin practices. These forms can be found on Magnus Health.

Trips

Overnight trips are an important part of Middle School team building an individual growth.

6th and 7th grade will return to Marine Lab this year for their two different programs. 8th grade will travel to North Carolina.

8th Grade NC Trip Information

Dear Parents of Eighth Grade Students,

We are currently organizing this year’s trip to Black Mountain, North Carolina during the week of September 26, 2022 (1123 Montreat Road, Black Mountain, NC).

We will depart the Seacrest campus on a Dolphin Transportation 55- passenger bus on the evening of September 26th. There will be a mid-point stop for a relief driver and then continuation to camp for an approximate 9:00 A.M. arrival Tuesday morning. We will start our return the night of the 30th and return to Seacrest on October 1st around 9:00 A.M.

Black Mountain Expeditions offers our students a well-known quality program that supports our academic curriculum, outreach, and team-building projects, a cornerstone of our 8th grade experience. Seacrest is familiar with the facility and program; as we have attended this program in the past. We suggest you visit the Black Mountain Expedition website for an overview of the program offerings at https://blackmountainexpeditions.com.

During our Middle School Parent Night on August 31, we will review all details of the trip and provide a packing list.

The price of the trip is $775, which covers transportation, room and board, and all program costs. Please make checks payable to Seacrest Country Day School with 8th Grade NC trip on the memo line, as your FACTS account will not be charged. Please drop payment off in the front office or mail to Seacrest Country Day School Att: NC payment, 7100 Davis Blvd. Naples FL 34104.

Due to required deposits for the program and transportation, a non-refundable deposit of $375 is required by July 25, 2022, to secure a guaranteed spot for the trip.

The remaining balance of $40o is due by September 5, 2022.

6th & 7th Grade Marine Lab Trips

Dear Parents of Students in 6th and 7th Grades,

Our students in 6th and 7th grades are scheduled to attend a three-day field trip to MarineLab in Key Largo on September 14th- 16th, 2022.

This is always a wonderful trip and an extension of the marine studies in our science curriculum. The programs are unique to each grade level and build upon each other. Through discussions, hands-on lab activities, and field observations, students will learn about the interdependent nature of the marine life of the subtropical Florida Keys. There is also special consideration and attention toward building community and practicing positive teamwork skills. We look forward to all of our 6th and 7th grade students participating in the trip. This is an experience not to be missed and one that unifies and sets an awesome tone for the rest of the school year.

We will discuss details and provide you with more information, including a packing list, at our Middle School Parent Night on August 31st. We suggest you visit the MarineLab website for an overview of the program offerings at www.marinelab.org.

All student trip forms and registration links from MarineLab will be sent home in August.

The total cost of the trip is $650, which includes transportation, program fees, room, and board.
