Book Tasting
Sampling sessions are fun. Whether it's food, lotions, makeup, or golf gear, you get to try a little bit of everything and see what suits you. Well, fifth grade teachers Mrs. Schimmel and Mrs. Pohl are taking that concept and applying it to books. The idea is to have students sample books in a genre they may have not yet discovered (fantasy) and give them some new summer reading options.
Set up with tables, tablecloths, centerpieces, and delicious bowls of popcorn, students walked into classrooms transformed into bistros. Soft music and a fake yule log on the fireplace completed the feel of the experience. Throughout the day, students read snippets of these books and figured out which ones they like.
