DAVIDSON COLLEGE

Seacrest College Counseling

The Seacrest Country Day School college counseling process utilizes all aspects of the school’s mission. Through a carefully and individualized process all Seacrest high school students and parents are guided through the college admissions process.

It is Seacrest’s belief that the college admission process is an extension of the Seacrest curriculum and, as such, is guided by the individual needs of students and imbued with an appreciation for the process as a learning experience in and of itself. Involvement in the college search challenges students to gain a clearer sense of who they are and, in terms of educational and career goals, what they want. By evaluating their strengths and interests and subsequently researching schools in which academic and career goals can best be achieved, our students acquire a genuine sense of responsibility for their own education.

The Seacrest College Counseling program is guided by the following beliefs:

  • That lifelong learning is essential in a rapidly-changing world
  • That the college admissions process is an integral part of the Seacrest learning experience
  • That as a college preparatory independent school we must provide comprehensive, professional guidance for our students and parents as they choose the next step on their educational journey.
  • That selecting a college or university is “a journey, not a destination”. Self-discovery, reflection, research and goal-setting are essential components of this journey.
  • That students have hundreds of options for higher education available to them, and they should consider the institutions that best fit their personality, learning style, and intellectual curiosity.
  • That college decisions are not the most important decisions students will ever make. Further, that there is not one “must attend” school out there. Rather, as a learning process the college search involves choosing wisely and then making the most of the choices that have been made.
