Robotics

History
Robotics has been a part of our middle school for six years.  Students in 7th and 8th grade use Legos and Mindstorm products to design, build, and program robots.  In 2004, with the advent of our new High School, Seacrest offered a 9th grade class in Advanced Robotics.  The main focus of this course is the FIRST Lego League competition.  Two years ago, our team finished first in the Tropic Wave regional competition and ninth at the Florida State tournament.  This year’s team received 1st place in the Robotics Dimension qualifying event in Pompano Beach and went on to the Florida State Championship Event in Melbourne, to take 5th place.  The team was also awarded the "Rising Star" award for the most promising team and a finish in the top 8.  Seventy-eight teams competed at this level.

FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) requires teams to solve a problem using a set of parts to create a robot that will perform certain tasks. The FIRST competition will be the focus of the Robotics Engineering course offered as an elective at Seacrest High School.  Our team, the Deep Tinkers, is made up of 2 sophomores and 10 freshmen, most of them veterans of the FLL campaign of 2004.  Under the guidance of teacher/coach Bill Foster, the team has high hopes of making an impact at the Florida Regional competition in Orlando. With the tremendous support from Head of School Dr. Lynne Powell and Head of Upper School Erin Duffy, the Deep Tinkers will be well prepared for their competition.

"Seacrest has given us our foundation for the future. We are well prepared and proud of who we are. We face the challenges with the knowledge that we are the problem solvers and leaders of tomorrow."

Seacrest Alumni

"There is magic in the classrooms. Creativity is truly encouraged.  The children are being empowered with life skills.  They respect each other. It is obvious that the staff is qualified and professional. There is clear evidence that the skill progression and curricular integration are excellent."
