Technology
Our technology center is new... but technology is not new to us.
Our technology is unique for any school of any size. What is even more important is that our children and teachers have the knowledge and confidence to approach new and ever-changing technology with enthusiasm and curiosity.
From the school's beginning in 1983, Seacrest has integrated technology into the curriculum. We think of all of our teachers as technology teachers. At Seacrest, each teacher has received training and incorporates technology into daily classroom activities.
The technology center provides our students with essential knowledge of the world in which they live. They learn to sort out and use the information at their fingertips. Sharing projects and ideas with children around the world is now as simple as walking across the hall.
But, we view technology as simply one more tool in this giant toolbox we call a school. We have a library for 20,000 volumes because children love to learn from books too. There is a resident storyteller and places to curl up and read. Our weather station relays the conditions outside and broadcasts to the local television station as well. And, students of any age delight in creating complex machines and fascinating patterns from the many materials in our math and science challenge laboratory.
This is just a sampling of our technology, because at Seacrest we are wired! We have two state-of-the-art computer labs, each with over 20 networked machines and every child at Seacrest has Technology class each and every week. Plus, there are networked computers in every classroom.
We have exciting equipment for videoconferences, interactive white boards, video projectors, digital cameras, and scanners. And over eight miles of gigaspeed cable keeps it all connected.
In our Math and Science Challenge Lab, principles from advanced math and physics are used to solve problems. Students build with gears or pulleys or levers and control their models using the computer technology. From four years old to eighth grade the children delight in working with the technology, manipulatives, and instruments that this special Challenge Lab offers.
