Elizabeth Feins named as Seacrest's 2013 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist.

Elizabeth Feins has been named as Seacrest’s 2013 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist.

Approximately 16,000 seniors from around the country have been named Semifinalists in the 58th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.  These academically talented high school seniors have the opportunity to continue in the competition for some 8,300 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring.

About 1.5 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2011 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying test, which served as an initial screen of program entrants.  The nationwide pool of semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.  The number of Semifinalists in a state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the national total of graduating seniors.

At Seacrest, Elizabeth is involved numerous clubs and organizations such as National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Key Club, and World Quest.  Her leadership positions include National Honor Society Treasurer, Editor of the school literary magazine, and participant in the regional Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) Seminar, as well as the international HOBY World Leadership Congress.  Her awards and honors include the Brown University Book Award, Leadership Lane award, All-State Choir, and English Academic Awards.  In her spare time, Elizabeth performs with Opera Naples, the Seacrest Chorus, and regional theater, as well as gives of her time and talents to community organizations.

Elizabeth now advances to the Finalist competition.  To be considered she must maintain her outstanding academic record in high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay, and earn SAT scores that confirm her earlier performance on the qualifying test.

The National Merit Scholarship winners of 2013 will be announced beginning in April and concluding in July, 2013.
