Plaster Landscapes
Japanese Landscapes
Plaster Landscapes-students molded plaster onto the back of canvases to convey a landscape of their choice. The focus of this lesson was texture and color application. Using dark shades for shadows and scraping away at the plaster for highlights, students were able to illustrate a three dimensional effect. Medium: Plaster and Acrylic Paints
Japanese Landscapes-Using a Japanese inspired composition, students created landscapes that began at twilight and ended at night. the goal for this lesson was blending and shading. Students were able to see an effective progression of color values. Medium: Watercolor
8th Grade
Texture Paintings
Newspaper Landscapes
Texture Paintings-Inspired by artist Van Gogh, students gathered rubbings to create a scene. Whether it was a vase of flowers or wheat fields, students had to consider the color tones of their compositions. At the end of the project, they were able to produce a textured piece of work similar to Van Gogh's starry night sky. Medium: Oil Pastels
Newspaper Landscapes-Using old newspapers and a landscape of their choice, students had to gather dark and light tones to convey a grayscale. The focus of this lesson was color values. In order to convey a recognizable landscape, the progression of colors had to be from the darkest values of the newspaper to the white edges. Medium: Newspapers
7th Grade
Pastel Landscape
Tissue Paper Mosaics
Paster Landscape-This exercise was an introduction to color values when using oil pastels. while illustrating the same landscape, students had to layer their colors and smudge to create the effect of blending. Medium: Oil Pastels
Tissue Paper Mosaics-Designing a pattern of their choice, students were given color tissue paper to create a tile-like effect. This lesson focused around color, pattern and repetition. After their design was filled, in a shor sentence, students wee asked to describe their work. Medium: Multi-colored Tissue Paper
6th Grade
Egyptian Sets
Egyptian Sets-This lesson was concentrated around perspective and scale. Students had to develop an Egyptian narrative revolving around animals spanning from their background layers to their foreground layers. Medium: Acrylic Paint, Construction Paper and Tissue Paper
